Gravitational lensing is nothing like how we observe it. If c is faster away from the immediate vicinity of mass, we see less lensing. If c is slower away from the immediate vicinity of mass, we see more lensing.
February 10, By Daniel Stolte, University of Arizona The Voynich manuscript’s unintelligible writings and strange illustrations have defied every attempt at understanding their meaning. When was the book made? Using radiocarbon dating , a team led by Greg Hodgins in the UA’s department of physics has found the manuscript’s parchment pages date back to the early 15th century, making the book a century older than scholars had previously thought.

The First Civilization The development of a Biblical chronology beginning with Adam is interesting, but will it hold up when compared with the known facts of secular history? To ascertain this, the earliest civilization of antiquity will next be examined to determine its location and the time of its emergence. The threshold of history appears to be located in the area of the present-day nation of Iraq. Archaeological research has established that there is no focus of civilization in the earth that can begin to compete in antiquity and activity with the basin of the Eastern Mediterranean and the region immediately to the east of it.
The Obeidan is the earliest clearly defined culture of Babylonia, where we find its remains underlying nearly all the oldest cities of the country, such as Ur, Erech, Lagash, Eridu, etc. This proves that the occupation of the marshlands of Babylonia by human settlers came rather late in history of the irrigation culture, probably not far from B.
Thus, the archaeological evidence shows that the location of the first civilization after the flood was in the Mesopotamia Valley, and this agrees exactly with the Bible, for it reports the first cities were Babylon, Erech, Nineveh, etc.
Frosty the Snowman Meets His Demise: An Analogy to Carbon Dating
The main point of the debate seems to be the following: Over the past decades, several research groups of self-proclaimed creationist scientists have claimed discoveries of dinosaur bones that they have managed to date, using radiocarbon dating methods , at some age which is a lot below the ‘usual’ i. The age that these groups claim to find is usually on the order of thousands or tens of thousands of years old. The particular example you bring up is one of the most famous such cases.
The claims are really quite spectacular, when taken at face value, and therefore should be examined thoroughly. In this answer, I will try to go through this story in great detail, hopefully exposing the reasons why this work is not taken seriously by scientists.

I have researched the type and use of some of these materials and provided a summary of each further on in this section. Smart materials are those that change in response to changing conditions in their surroundings or in the application of other directed influences — such as passing an electric charge through them.
Modern products increasingly use them as imaginative designers see the potential they offer. Shirts that change colour with changes in temperature and thermometers that are in the from of printed strips use thermochromic inks whilst Photochromic inks respond to changes in light conditions. Clothing also uses inks that have this characteristic and have patterns that change with altering light conditions.
To be considered smart, a material has to have one or more of the following features: Some examples are as following: Piezoelectric materials are materials that produce a voltage when stress is applied. Since this effect also applies in the reverse manner, a voltage across the sample will produce stress within the sample. Suitably designed structures made from these materials can therefore be made that bend, expand or contract when a voltage is applied.
Shape memory alloys and shape memory polymers are materials in which large deformation can be induced and recovered through temperature changes or stress changes pseudoelasticity. The large deformation results due to martensitic phase change. Magnetic shape memory alloys are materials that change their shape in response to a significant change in the magnetic field. Temperature-responsive polymers are materials which undergo changes upon temperature.
UFOs and Fringe Science There are around human-made satellites in working order around the Earth, however if the debris of old and damaged satellites are taken into account the number increases dramatically. Ever since the Soviet Union launched the very first artificial satellite into orbit in , various countries around the world have sought to compete and satellites today are used for communication, navigation and exploration. Satellites are often visible passing overhead as the sunlight reflects back towards the Earth.
One of them is impossible to miss, the largest satellite currently in orbit, the International Space Station, at a huge m across.
From to Allied and Axis scientists threw their weight into the war knowing that their influence would have enormous consequences for mankind. The secret battles for air supremacy, the inventions, the measures and the countermeasures are part of a story which scientists tell in tonight’s programme. A Scottish chemist has recently thought up an unusual application for Scotch whisky: One over the eighty: In two weeks’ time it will be a criminal offence to have more than eighty milligrams of alcohol per hundred millilitres of blood while in charge of a motor car.
What does this level mean? How will the scientific analyses be carried out? But we are ill adapted for this new conquest; to us it is a hostile environment. Under water we are inefficient and inadequate compared with the giant fish and the sea mammals whose world it is. Horizon looks at how scientists are helping men enter this new world. How does a modern restorer set about preserving for a few more centuries a year-old masterpiece?
In the next decade, jet airliners will carry up to five hundred passengers and fly faster than sound.
At least seven of their names match those seen on carved monuments, offering clear potential to draw alignments between the two sources. Roll-out image of K photograph by Justin Kerr. As the earliest researchers to work on the Dynastic Vases realized, the chronology of the text, consisting only of Calendar Round dates without a tie to the Long Count, is flawed Robicsek and Hales Day- and month-names are consistent, but variations in their coefficients produce a number of impossible combinations—some arising from the inventions of modern restorers, but others plainly the work of ancient scribes.
Not only do coefficients for the same date vary from one vase to the next, they even differ on vases decorated by the same painter for the identification of four such painters see Martin

It is currently believed as far as I can tell that scientists believe that Neanderthals and Early Man Cro-Magnon , lived in Europe at the same time but didn’t mix. And then by some unexplained mystery Neanderthals who are believed to have lived on the Earth as early as , bc died out after Cro-Magnon moved in about 30, bc.
First, I am of the opinion that all radioactive isotopic dating is wrong as the rate of cosmic rays hitting the Earth which produces isoptopes is never constant and therefore the ratio of radioactive isotopes is not constant. However, I think the Bible may give us some clues to who are and what happened to what scientists call Neanderthal, Cro-Magnon, and Humans.
John in Revelation was shown 4 beasts who stood around the throne of God. Joseph Smith asked God if these 4 beasts represented 4 individuals or classes.

Radiocarbon Dating; year old wood sample what accuracy may I expect? [closed] Ask Question. Would it be possible to use Radiocarbon C14 dating to get a good estimate? I’ve seen C-dating used for ancient samples (BC etc.) but can it be used for year old samples as well?
Department of the History of Science Helen C. PSCF 45 December Radiocarbon C dating has several implications for Christianity, particularly in terms of the interpretation of the first part of Genesis. Since its advent in the mid th century, it has been one of the central topics in the creation-evolution controversy. As of the mid s, radioactive dating had not attracted serious attention from the majority of evangelicals.
Since the invention of the C method and the appearance of evangelical professionals in this field, however, American evangelicals have divided themselves into two groups. One group has been made up of fundamentalist evangelicals, who accepted the global effect of Noah’s flood and a young earth and rejected radioactive dates. The other, non-literalist group of evangelicals accepted some kinds of evolutionary uniformitarian hypotheses and radioactive dating. The Seventh-day Adventists and the American Scientific Affiliation were central forums in the controversy regarding radioactive dating during the first decade after the invention of the C dating method.
Then the controversy spread out into wider evangelical circles. This paper traces the reactions of Seventh-day Adventists and American evangelical Christians toward C dating. Among several radioactive dating methods, the radiocarbon C dating method which was invented by Willard Frank Libby of the University of Chicago in the late s occupies a special position in archaeology and ancient history, as well as geology, because it can give the absolute age of those carbonaceous archaeological findings that were not older than the half-life of C C dating received special attention from evangelical Christians who emphasized the authority and reliability of the Bible, because it could date the age of organic remains of ancient plants, animals and men in terms of the biblical chronology.

Farmer Posted October 19, ’10 When cosmic rays bombard earth’s atmosphere, they produce neutrons. These neutrons then collide with nitrogen atoms in the atmosphere, changing them into radioactive carbon atoms. The carbon is then absorbed by plants during photosynthesis. When the animals eat the plants the carbon is then absorbed into there bodies, and when other animals eat that animal it is absorbed into them also. All of us have the same amount of carbon in us currently and the carbon slowly leaks out by turning into nitogen and escaping but we, by eating, continually re-absorb it at the same rate.
When an animal or plant dies the carbon still leaks out in this way but it is no longer being brought back into the body and me can measure the rate at which it leaves the basis for carbon dating the problem with this is that all the carbon will leave any dead organism in about 11, years. So if we are finding this carbon in dinosaur ones and fossils these fossils can be no older than about 11, or else they would no longer contain carbon ! This is why I believe that it is impossible for the millions of years necessary for the evolutionary process.
Carbon 14 is not that complex really.

Melissa Flores is a third-year anthropology student studying at an authentic dig site in Belgium for eight weeks. As she works to unearth prehistoric artifacts, she might just unearth new friendships or romance too. The game is divided into 8 weeks. Gameplay is a combination of stats raising, mini games, and scenes. At the beginning of each week, you choose daily activities to boost particular stats. Each romanceable character prefers a specific stat.
Some also favor specific activities. For example, Kyler is mostly found working in the cave, and Hendrik frequents the lab. In the planner, you can see which activities correlates to which love interest. Weekly planner each day has 3 slots Relationships tab shows your level of affection with each character You can also raise stats by completing the mini games. The two main activities, Cave and Lab, each have a corresponding mini game.
The cave mini game is like a logic or Sudoku puzzle, and the lab mini game is similar to blackjack. Cave mini game Lab mini game Bless the developers for allowing you the option to turn off the mini games.
